Great Slide Show of Love Harvest's Art Van,
Hot Times Festival and tons of Art Cars
Ernie Steingold of Burbank, Calif., spent more than 10 years welding his "California Fantasy Van" with brass-colored items. Steingold, who died in 1998, drove the vehicle slowly and eventually ruined its tires and brakes because of the car's weight. A 1975 GMC Panel Van, the art car calls the Art Car World museum in Douglas, Ariz., its home. This car arrived unannounced at Hot Times and virtually stole the show!
Hunter Mann was driving California Dreamin (aka Brass Van) and towing Pico De Gallo Art Car from Arizona to New York for a film festival or showing.
The AeroCar 600 is a 1959 BMW 600 turned airplane! Created by Dave Major, this little vehicle is as much airplane as it is car. It has a handmade propeller turned by a 12 volt electric motor, a tail from a real airplane and tires from a Beech Jet 400A. It even has a custom dash with a working altimeter, airspeed indicator and aircraft compass!

All the way from Canada Halle Halle has visited Hot Times twice. The Dundas resident's bright red Toyota Tacoma truck, dubbed her "art car" is a celebration of Canada. The top is adorned with small figurines, dozens of them, like those found on kids' sports participation trophies. Halle glued them on with marine glue.
The right side of the truck is covered in carefully cut out maple leaves, a pictorial lesson in Canadiana. From photos of wildlife, to the stars of "SCTV," to politicians and the Dionne quintuplets, it's a rolling history lesson.
Hot Times has hosted artists from all over the world. In 2017 internationally famous jingle truck painter Haider Ali first visited Hot Times and created the Heal Mobile for the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center and began cars for several local individuals! Jimmy Staehla - the Bottlecap Truck
After being diagnosed with cancer, furniture maker Jimmy aka the Capman, of Athens GA started creating art, which led to the Bottle Cap Truck - "I had found some vintage "Crush" bottlecaps that were really cool so I used them as a signature on each of my pieces of furniture. By now I was making tables, chairs and benches. Late one night I decided that my fledging art business needed a name...after much discussing and thought we came up with Architectural Resurrections. So I found a couple of old pieces of metal wrote the name of the biz on them and screwed them to my then blue/rusty 1979 F-150. I then pulled out one of my vintage Crush bottlecaps and glued it to each of the signs. That's when the lightbulb went off! I came into our house and announced to my wife that I planned to cover my entire truck in bottlecaps! Believe me...there are no shortage of bottlecaps in a college town! It was a real community effort...thanks Athens!
And now 10,000 bottlecaps later I have a truck completely covered!"
